The double parlors are used as the formal entertaining space. The beautiful plaster cove mouldings, elegant fireplace mantels and the mirrors above them were added during the Sayers Administration, 1899-1903. Ceilings on the first floor are about 16 feet high. The portrait of Sam Houston, painted when he was a U.S. Senator from Texas, is a state treasure.
