In 1979 Governor and Mrs. William P. Clements, Jr. established Friends of the Governor’s Mansion, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to maintaining and preserving the historical and cultural significance of the Mansion.
Our mission is to preserve the historical collections, beautify the gardens and educate the public about the home and its history.
As the oldest, continuously occupied Governor’s Mansion west of the Mississippi, the Texas Governor’s Mansion is the most historic house in Texas and an important national landmark. Friends of the Governor’s Mansion has a Memoranda of Agreement with the Texas Historical Commission and the State Preservation Board. We do not accept state funding of any kind.
