The Governor’s Mansion has acquired an outstanding collection of commemorative earthenware that is displayed in the back entry. Texian Campaigne Ware was made in northern Staffordshire, England to commemorate the Texas War of Independence (1835-1836) and the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). The uniforms and settings depicted are not realistic; the romanticized battle-scene designs were probably taken from European battle drawings rather than adapted from American lithographs.
